In general,
people that are interested in learning more about the operation of these
systems should use the contact information in these database entries If there is no BPL team for a particular
system, contact the appropriate ARRL Section

Reports/descriptions
from amateurs in the area:
Richard Bartholomew, KK4AI, bartr@peoplepc.com, has done some testing in the
area. He reports that the IBEC system could not be heard on any amateur bands,
although he tested only 80, 40, 20 and 15 meters. The HomePlug system would operate on 60
meters, so it is likely that there would be interference there.

As a member of the
Verde Valley Amateur Radio Association and a member of the committee studying
the interference issues with this technology I have some very grave concerns
about this situation. Our testing in the vicinity of these test sites shows
radio interference in the 2-30 megahertz range of a magnitude that makes
Amateur Radio communications useless in the event of emergency situations such
as disasters, terrorist attacks, etc.”

Slack of FPL has confirmed that the system is shut down and that FPL is not
operating any BPL systems at this time.
This system was in operation but
shut down. Noise levels strong enough to
be harmful interference to Amateur
Radio were observed, but the system was shut down before this could be fully
documented and reported.

Description
of system:
This system was a small marketing trial and feasibility study undertaken by Alliant energy. It used BPL equipment manufactured by Amperion, http://www.amperion.com. Allliant Energy was the operator of the system. When it was installed, the local amateurs immediately noticed interference to mobile and home stations.
